Beyonce in Olcay Gulsen

Many moons ago I spotted a vertiginous pair of yellow platform pumps with a strap around the ankle on Angela Simmons. I waited patiently to find out who they were by and how astronomically expensive they would be. Finally it was released that they were created by Dutch fashion designer Olcay Gulsen. Naturally I went to research her label and see what other beauties she had in her collection, and there it was: a white leather dress with a deep key hole in the back. I drooled over it for a while and resolved to add it to my wish list of items that I will one day acquire when my coins are in order. Fast forward to today when I spotted that gorgeous garment on the one a only Beyoncé at the Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show press conference. I must say she looked absolutely amazing in it! One can only hope that it will still be around when I am able to purchase it, but if not Olcay Gulsen has an amazing collection and I'm sure there will be other items for me to covet. She's definitely one of my favorite designers, because her garments are super feminine with a little edge. I highly recommend that you check out her site.

Music x Style: Chrisette Michele

When Chrisette Michele released the first single from her Audrey Hepburn Mixtape, I was rather intrigued. First of all I have a slight obsession with Audrey Hepburn and movies of that time period. The fashion was to die for, and many of the looks created during that time are still relevant today. Anyone that loves and lives for classic fashion should have a very sincere appreciation for Audrey Hepburn and her influence on fashion. Second, the single "Charades" spoke to me on so many levels. It reflects my exact feelings about a certain man in my life who should or should not be there (the jury is still out on him). Lastly, I was sold on the simplicity and elegance of the styling and makeup in the video for Charades. The Mixtape is said to have been inspired by Audrey Hepburn and I think that she properly paid homage to her. Here are a few stills from the Charades video. What do you think?

Spring/Summer 2013 Shoe Trend

As I was skimming through my favorite shoe designer's offerings for this Spring and Summer I noticed a recurring style: open and closed toe booties. I am also seeing them in the pre Fall collections as well. I predict that we'll be seeing a lot of celebs in them; hence, the more cost efficient shoe designers (Steve Madden, Aldo, etc.) will be putting out similar styles, and of course that's where I'll be shopping. What do you think?

Things I Covet: Leather Opera Gloves

My obsession with Scandal and the freezing New York weather have resulted in my latest obsession with leather opera gloves. I spotted Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington's character) on the hit show wearing a pair of white leather opera gloves a few weeks ago and I fell in love. I also saw them on Kourtney Kardashian a few seasons ago on Kim and Kourtney take New York; however, I lived in Atlanta at the time and didn't have much use for a pair. They are so elegant and ladylike and add the perfect amount of drama to a look, not to mention very practical for taking on these New York temps. Here are some examples of how to wear them.

Hello NY

So I have made the big move to New York to attend FIT (The Fashion Institute of Technology). I have fallen in love with this city already. The fact that the city is constantly moving compels you to move as well. Everyone here seems to be in a constant rush to do something terribly important which makes me feel that I should be doing the same. Today is my orientation for school and I am so thrilled. I'm 25 years old starting over, starting anew, and I couldn't be more nervous, excited, anxious, happy, blessed and terrified all at the same time. Fortunately I have a really good friend/sorority sister here with me. I wonder where this journey will take me. My destination is uncertain, but I'm going to enjoy every minute of the ride.

Working

I just received a video of me styling my favorite client, radio personality and host Danie B. This was my second time styling her for her promotional photos, and her first time really giving me creative control. She is the most fun and amazing person to work with. I was so honored to be a part of the growth and evolution of her brand. Visit her blog for all things pop culture www.danieb.com
